When we first started, we spent six months watching YouTube videos, reading endless blog posts, and lurking in Facebook Sourdough groups—only to feel completely overwhelmed. Everyone made it sound so complicated. They talked about hydration percentages, feeding schedules, levains, float tests, autolyse, stretch and folds, and cold proofing. It felt like we needed a science degree just to bake a loaf of bread!
So we did what so many others do—we put it off. We wanted to bake sourdough, but the process seemed so intimidating that we didn’t even dare try. What if we failed? What if we wasted time, money, and flour on bread that turned out like a dense, inedible brick?
We stopped trying to follow complicated, conflicting advice and focused on what actually mattered—a simple, repeatable process that worked. We had to find one that would fit into our busy schedule as Homeschooling homesteaders trying to keep up with a 33 acre farm loaded with farm animals.
